It is widely suspected that big chunk of property owners do not pay taxes while few owners came forward to submit the right assessments of their property between December 14, 2016 and January 13, 2017, but many remained silent as property taxpayers who have reportedly furnished wrong details of their property under the self-assessment scheme (SAS) have been given the opportunity by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to rectify the wrong entries.The deadline for rectification of property tax details such as declaring wrong dimensions or undervaluation of the property under the SAS is January 13, 2017.Announcing that a wrong declaration or undervaluation is a violation under Section 108A of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act, the BBMP Commissioner, in his circular, pointed out that defaulters were liable for penalties and other stricter punishment.This is for the first time that the BBMP has made such a provision for rectifying property tax self-assessment mid-year.Online revision: FORM VI .BBMP issued public notice for payment of tax by declaring correct /revised site area built up area usage .Reportedly Starting December 14, BBMP is giving a one-time opportunity to tax payers to declare right assessments online. You have a chance to rectify the errors till January 13. The move follows several cases of taxpayers not declaring actual dimensions of their property.In a public circular, BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad Reportedly said wrong declaration or undervaluation of property is a violation under Section 108A of Karnataka Municipal Corporations (KMC) Act, 1976 and wrongdoers will have to face hefty penalties and other punishments. The rule applies to all types of property tax declarations, including that of building dimension, zonal classification and usage of property. "If there are any changes in these factors and if the same is not declared under SAS, property owners should come forward and declare it now," stated the circular.The BBMP has said that revised declarations can be made online by generating a chalan on the website, http:www.bbmptax.karnataka.gov.in. Once the chalan is generated, payments can also be made offline through select banks, details of which are available on the BBMP website and in ward offices. Those unable to generate chalans online can visit BBMP ward offices and offices of Assistant Revenue Officer (ARO) for assistance. For further queries, people can contact the BBMP control room at 080-22660000. Those having difficulty in getting the challan online and those who don't have access to the online challan can visit any of the BBMP ward offices or even the office of the assistant revenue officer for assistance in revision payments.
