By: M.S.Yatnatti: Editor and Video Journalist Bangaluru : It is commendable that Union HRD Minister Smt Smriti Zubin Irani is doing her job without bothering about irrelevant criticism and successfully implementing new initiatives to improve education system in India in the similar way Prof. Sunaina Singh is successfully doing her job without botheration of irrelevant criticism as Vice Chancellor of EFLU with her track record of achievements and success with the active support of EFLU disciplined students and Faculty members and University officers and student leaders and many academic organizations and prominent educationists and NGOs are supporting her in making EFLU power house of English and knowledge .Students of EFLU are naturally got the advantage which many other students do not as English language is international language of communication and business . EFLU English and Foreign Languages University need to focus specifically on imparting written and spoken English and soft skills to youth to enhance their employability .EFLU should plan to partner with the British Council as its knowledge partner, Times of India as its media partner under its teach India programme and need to implement the initiative through a network of NGOs as partner and with an army of volunteers selected from IT giants and as soft skills are very important as employees are hired for their skills and fired for their bad behaviors .
EFLU should start tech writing course at the University level: with the demand for technical writers seeing a rapid rise across the country, EFLU need to, start a certificate or a degree course in technical writing. While there is a demand from various sectors for quality technical writers, the highest demand is from the IT and service industry. Since it is a professional course and requires industry expertise, EFLU should take trainers from the industry coming in to offer hands-on experience .Currently, the professional course is being taught by private institutes in the city and compared to these, the fees of the varsity-run course are considerably low.EFLU should have Skill Development Centre as several new job oriented courses have to be introduced where students and working professionals can hone their skills and get into the desired job sector."Technical writing is in great demand right now -- almost every sector needs technical writers," .The experts feel university must start technical writing programme at the university level. "Since it is a professional course and requires industry expertise, EFLU should take trainers coming from the industry itself to offer hands-on experience and make candidates ready for jobs,".Students, who are graduates in English as well as engineering students with a good command over English, can apply for the course. The duration can be over three to six months, in which candidates will undergo 60 hours of training. The fees should be kept low demands a senior information engineer who also works as a trainer at city-based technical writing institute, Technowriters, are approximately 20,000 technical writers in India, but the actual need from various industries is close to 80,000."Today, the biggest demand for technical writers is from software companies as they need professionals with who can communicate well in English. However, since there is no formal training or courses at the University or college level, few professional technical writers are being produced," .only few institutes offering technical writing courses and the number of writers being produced is also meagre."For the technical writer, the challenge is to understand the product and the end user who will use the product and on that basis, write the user manual so that even a layman can read and understand how to handle the particular product," Technical writers generally write user manuals for products, content for websites online help files, multimedia presentations and installation guides for various software and products.
