By: M.S.Yatnatti: Editor and Video Journalist Bengaluru: Mr U T Khadar Minister for food recently has nominated Sri T.S.Abdullah congress leader from Dakshina Kannada and Udapi as director / member of state level food vigilance committee .He was felicitated by Muslim Central Committee (r) president Haji K S Mohammed Masood and its members .Karnataka government has reportedly nominated six persons for state level food vigilance committee and other from zone levels as per the rules .But these members are reportedly not remunerated and given perks though budgetary provisions are made for it. They should also get equivalent salaries as that of MLA as they get salary . But their counterparts MLAS are paid in some cases three remunerations. All the 21 members continue to function as chairpersons of boards corporations or heads of legislature panels. But, they can't claim multiple remunerations. Henceforth, they will be allowed to claim salary and allowance from any one of these positions," speaker of the legislative assembly K B Koliwad reportedly had said . While a Karnataka MLA draws an average monthly salary of Rs one lakh, heads of boards and corporations, positions which are equivalent to the rank of cabinet minister, are eligible for a pay of around Rs 1.5 lakh.The heads of legislature committees are also eligible for an allowance of around Rs one lakh. A majority of the 21 legislators had allegedly claimed salaries and allowances from two or three positions, sources said.
Given that leakages in PDS reportedly range from 40 to 50 percent, and in some states reportedly go as high as 60 to 70 percent, GoI should defer implementation of NFSA in states that have not done end to end computerization; have not put the list of beneficiaries online for anyone to verify, and have not set up vigilance committees to check pilferage from PDS. Karnataka government has reportedly nominated five persons for state level food vigilance committee .The State Government with an aim to monitor the distribution of the essential commodities that are being distributed through the Public Distribution System (PDS) and thereby to ensure the participation of the Public in monitoring of PDS, has constituted vigilance committees. State level has been constituted by nominating five unofficial members with host o official members andpublic representatives which will under the chairmanship of Hon' ble Minister for Food, Civil supplies and Consumer Protection.
